Project Overview
This was a research  project to develop a holistic digital design that is accessible for individuals diagnosed with breast cancer in London to enable them to cope with procedural anxiety. The healthcare system in London is overwhelmed, and a non-pharmacological intervention had to be designed to be self-accessible by all individuals for procedural anxiety. The main cause for procedural anxiety is lack of information, miscommunication and recurring procedures that bring upon a wave of emotional impact on patients in the form of uncertainty of procedure outcome, fear of loss, loss of identity, pain, and distress. Virtual reality was identified as a suitable form of digital design intervention for providing procedural information and distraction, via a moblie health app as the mode of delivery. Empathy was identity as the most important criterion for digital interface aesthetics. VR environment and content selection was reviewed in detail and deployed in the app in a creative arts therapy format.
